dc.description.abstract-translatedThis paper returns to the efforts of theologian Hans Küng, who sought to promote ideas of a “Global Ethic” within both world politics and at a grassroots level. It further postulates that the culturally and religiously plural society of today’s globalized world – which is continually more interconnected thanks to advanced technologies in various sectors (communication, transport, etc.) – requires the establishment of a basic consensus on ethical issues for ensuring peaceful coexistence. It is proposed that the consensus on certain standards and common attitudes should be achieved by equal intercultural dialogue as an appropriate tool in the current international political situation, which is characterised by an egalitarian and polycentric arrangement. The content of this paper also disputes some components of Hans Küng’s Global Ethic project and points out threats that might jeopardize the attainment of a basic ethical consensus. Finally, it suggests certain adjustments, alternative solutions and improvements.en
