dc.description.abstract-translatedIn the study we are interested in respondents´ ability to distinguish truth and lie through behavior and in possible relationship between respondents´ lie detection accuracy rates and the effect of stereotypes. Persons who are better in deception detection may experience a higher degree of professional success in professions as management and economics. Stereotypical believes about other people based on their looks, behavior or specific features, might lower their deception detection accuracy and lead to inacurate evaluations. This may result in failures during the process of employers recruitment and also in inappropriate behavior of current employers. Stereotypical believes might me influenced by various factors of emotional intelligence. Respondents among Czech students of economics and management (n= 161) evaluated veracity statements of suspects in 21 videoclips and filled The Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire. The results showed that respondents were highly accurate in lie detection, while their truth detection accuracy rates were below chance. Their responses were affected by lie-bias and stereotypical believes especially concerning nationality. Lower levels of emotional intelligence correlated with higher accuracy of deception detection and with stereotypical evaluations based on nationality or intelligence of videotaped suspects. Possible implications of research results are discussed.en
