Abstract: Although modern graphics hardware provides up to 1.5 gigabytes of memory, methods for effective texture compression are still required since there is always demand for more detailed and realistic images. In this paper, we present a method for the effective compression of large images and textures based on a quadratic B-Spline wavelet. The transformation is followed by a tree-compaction algorithm, which achieves high compression ratio at good image quality.
