Abstract: The possibilities of hierarchical compression in hyperspectral images repository are investigated. The image analysis of «SpecTIR» and «AVIRIS» hyperspectrometers is carried out. In order to increase the compression ratio, the spectral bands approximation algorithms are proposed to provide fast access to individual bands. The effectiveness of the developed algorithms is investigated through computational experiments using real 16-bit hyperspectral images.
