dc.description.abstractSpojené státy americké se po francouzské revoluci a následných válečných střetech v Evropě dostaly do pozice jedné z hlavních neutrálních mocností. Pro státy Unie se tato pozice ukázala být velice příhodná, neboť zvýšila míru obchodu s oběma stranami konfliktu. Avšak Velká Británie usoudila, že americká neutralita umožnila Francii využívat USA jako přepravce svého zboží, a tím limitovala výhodu britské námořní dominance. Navíc královské námořnictvo nechtělo přihlížet, jak se americké námořní kapacity rozšiřují i o desertéry z britských lodí. Postupně tak došlo na prosazení tvrdších postupů vůči lodím USA i za cenu možného zhoršení vztahů. Tato britská politika nakonec vedla k zahájení americké hospodářské války vůči Velké Británii a následně byla tato forma odvety aplikována i vůči napoleonské Francii. Neochota obou dvou evropských mocností ustoupit americkým požadavkům vedla USA k pokusu naklonit si vůči svým nárokům Francii, a tím i přesvědčit Velkou Británii, aby ustoupila ze svých stanovisek. To se nestalo a došlo jen na další zhoršení britsko-amerických vztahů, což mělo ve svých důsledcích za následek vyhlášení války ze strany USA.cs

dc.description.abstract-translatedAfter the French revolution and after the first clashes in Europe, the United States of America became one of the main neutral powers. This position proved to be favourable for the states of the Union because it increased the amount of the trade with both belligerent. However, Great Britain got to the conclusion that American neutrality allowed France to use the USA as a carrier of their goods and thereby was advantage of the British maritime dominance limited. Moreover, the Royal Navy was not willing to be passive during the expansion of the American Navy by the British deserters. Gradually were introduced harsher methods against ships of the USA despite the possibility of worsening mutual relationships. This British policy in the end led to the beginning of the American economic warfare against Great Britain; similarly was such a form of the countermeasure then applied against Napoleonic France. Reluctance of both European powers to had met American insistences led the USA to attempt to win over France for their demands. By doing so they believed that this would persuade Great Britain to withdraw from their standpoints. This did not happen, and it only deepened the disputes in the British-American relationships which eventually steer the course to the declaration of the War by the USA.en
