Abstract in different language: The paper tracks the use of terms which were used in medieval written sources to indicate manor houses. Within the sample of sites belonging to the extensive Rosenberg dominium, the main residential features were named hrad in Czech, castrum in Latin, and Vest/Veste, or Haus/ Hus in German. The smaller features were then called tvrz in Czech and munitio in Latin, with more Latin terms such as fortalitium or castellum standing vaguely in the middle. Moreover, the fashion of designation may have oscillated according to the importance of the manor, and other factual or linguistic context.
