Abstract in different language: | Most 3D modelling tools available today operate using interfaces based on traditional static menus, which implies that the user must go through a long training period before he can use the modelling tool in a productive manner. In this paper we explore the definition and use of new embodied modelling tools within a 3D environment. Each embodied tool works in its own virtual 2D space that senses the action and movements of the “mouse” and translates them into operations over the elements of a 3D scene. We develop embodied modelling tools covering the most common operations of a traditional modelling program, including creating, colouring, lighting and editing objects, as well as showing the internal hierarchy of the scene. Lastly, we conclude by describing the characteristics of the modelling tools that have been shown to be useful in improving interaction. |
