Abstract in different language: | In the following text, we talk about public agenda setting carried out by the Catholic Church in the Czech Republic. We start by analysing the relationship between the Church and the media and conclude the first part of the study by finding that media took over functions carried out, until present, exclusively by the Church. We then focus on the media and Church ability to set public agenda. In case of media, this function is extensively documented in contemporary literature. In case of Church, this field remains uninvestigated. In the second part of the text, we introduce agenda-setting theoretical concepts and terms which we intend to apply to the case of the Catholic Church in the Czech Republic. We have chosen to use for our empirical analysis the method of semi-structured interviews. We collected four semi-structured interviews with informants from different strata of the Church structure. We have focused our attention to the description of strategies that Czech Catholic Church uses to set public agenda. We conclude our text by describing three particular strategies that we have called: (1) media strategy because the Czech Catholic Church intends to set public agenda through the media agenda, (2) vertical strategy because the Czech Catholic Church intends to set policy agenda through laics active in the top of political hierarchy and (3) horizontal strategy because the Czech Catholic Church intends to set public agenda through interpersonal communication between laics and mass public. |
