Abstract in different language: | This thesis is concerned with optimising the shape and magnetisation direction of the permanent-magnet for use as synchronous or electronically commutated machine. Optimisation of different shapes and directions of magnetisation is performed by using the nite element analysis, in a program called FEMM. MS Excel was used for processing the values and a mathematical program known as MATLAB was used to perform waveforms. These included waveforms such as, induced voltage, magnetic ux density in an air gap and spectral analysis, using source codes provided by my supervisor. All options are compared at the end of this thesis, namely, the best shape of induced voltage, magnetic flux density in the air gap, the harmonic distortion (THD) and subsequently individual variants recommended for use, either, in synchronous machines or electrically commutated machines. |
