Abstract: | Práce se zabývá významem šílenství v literatuře německého naturalismu. |
Abstract in different language: | This bachelor thesis focuses on the topic of madness in German literature in the period of Naturalism. It consists of the analysis of two naturalistic works, Flagman Thiel and Papa Hamlet. The extensive research and comparing of the individual works explain why and how madness is incorporated into the stories. The thesis is mainly focused on the influence of personality, relationships in the family, work opportunities, and the environment on the mental stage of the main protagonists. The research shows that all of the categories have a significant impact on the main characters. Even though the dominant reason why the mental breakdown occurred in the first place is the German society at that time, different situations cause the mental illness of the individual protagonists. Thiel's madness is raised by his inability to distinguish between his inner idealized world and the brutal reality. Even Niels suffers from living in his own world. Nevertheless, the last stimulus of Thiel's madness is the death of his son whom he lost thanks to his job as a flagman. On the other hand, Niels' faith was connected to his atrocious life as an artist in a mechanized society. |
