| Abstract: | Winston Churchill je důležitou osobou britských dějin, avšak ani jeho zásluhy za druhé světové války nezabraňují lidem zpochybňovat jeho skutečné politické záměry a ideologie. Již za svého života nebyly jeho rasistické názory a rozhodnutí přijímány ani mezi jeho kolegy. Po druhé světové válce se však jeho postava dostala v západním světě na stupínek vítězů a kontroverze byly z větší míry odsunuty stranou. V roce 2020 se při celosvětových protestech proti rasismu, v jejichž čele stálo hnutí Black Lives Matter, toto změnilo. Dnes je jeho osoba obviňována nejen z rasismu a rasisticky motivovaného vraždění, mučení a vyhladovění obyvatel žijících v částech Britského impéria, ale je obviňován například i z ableizmu. Kvůli těmto změnám probíhá diskuze nejen o vnímání historie moderními zásadami, ale i například o systematickém rasismu. |
| Abstract in different language: | Winston Churchill is an important personality of British history, but not even his merits in the World War II could prevent people from questioning his real political intentions and ideologies. Even during his life, his racist remarks and decisions where not accepted among his colleagues. After the World War II his personage was put on some sort of pedestal for winners in the Western society and his controversies were mostly pushed aside. Protests against racism which were happening all around the world led by the movement Black Lives Matter in 2020, completely changed these arrangements. Today Winston Churchill is accused of not only racism and racially motivated murders, torture and starvation of citizen which lived under the British Empire, but he is also accused of ableism. Because of these changes, there are multiple discussions happening about perception of the past through modern principles or systemic racism. |
