Abstract in different language: | The Cheb region belongs to the historical areas which are distinctly and morphologically determined. It is, due to its complicated historical development, a suitable area to demonstrate links between settlements and landscape, respectively to observe the variations of symbolism created in order to manifest entitlement for the castles’ surroundings. Except for the castle of Waldstein, emerging from the darkness of history as the possession of imperial ministerial house, all the other castles situated here are, according to written sources, products of colonization activities of other subjects which usually aimed their goals towards Cheb imperial region. These include the dukes of Merania (Eprechstein, Hirschstein), earls of Henneberg (Rudolfstein), the reeves of Plauen (Kapellenberg) and the landgraves of Leuchtenberg (Weissenstein). The noble houses used their ministeriales or clients for these operations. The situation of Kynšperk and Kynžvart castles is more complex as the role of Bohemian rulers and their dependant subjects remains fairly unclear. We therefore conclude that surprisingly, other subjects than the Holly Roman Emperor represented their ambitions for power, given by a dominantly situated castles, in a symbolical level in the Cheb region. |
