| Abstract: | Přestože od otevření Panamského průplavu uplynulo již více než sto let, dodnes představuje průplav významný námořní škrtící bod, tj. místo, které má pro svého majitele geostrategický význam. Námořní škrticí body jsou přirozeně úzké plavební kanály, na kterých je díky jejich strategické poloze velký provoz a které mají zásadní význam pro světový obchod. Tato práce poskytuje obecný vhled do událostí, které provázely vznik, výstavbu, provoz a kontrolu Panamského průplavu. Součástí práce bude představení významných událostí - prvních projektů, francouzského úsilí, amerického převzetí, americké kontroly nad průplavem, následného předání průplavu Panamě, rozšíření průplavu a mnoha dalších důležitých událostí. Práce představuje podrobný popis historického a politického vývoje spjatý s Panamským průplavem od dob prvních zmínek o jeho výstavbě až po současný geopolitický význam průplavu. Hlavním cílem je představit vývoj geopolitického významu průplavu napříč důležitými etapami Panamského průplavu. Na současný význam průplavu poukazuje řada faktorů. Jedním z nich je rostoucí zájem Číny o tuto oblast a rostoucí znepokojení Spojených států. Dalším faktorem je snaha vytvořit nové alternativy, které by Panamskému průplavu konkurovaly, ať už se jedná o projekt průplavu v Nikaraguy, Severozápadní trasa nebo projekty pozemních tras v Latinské Americe. |
| Abstract in different language: | Despite the fact that more than a century has passed since the opening of the Panama Canal, to this day the canal still represents a significant maritime chokepoint. i.e., a place that is geostrategically significant to its owner. Marine choke points are naturally narrow shipping channels with high traffic due to their strategic location and they are vital to global trade. This work provides a general insight into the events surrounding the creation, construction, operation and control of the Panama Canal. The work will include a presentation of significant events - the early projects, the French effort, the American takeover, the American control of the canal, the subsequent transfer of the canal to Panama, the widening of the canal, and many other important events. The thesis presents a detailed insight into the historical and political developments surrounding the Panama Canal from the time of the first references to its construction to the current geopolitical significance of the Canal. The main objective is to present the evolution of the geopolitical significance of the Canal across the important stages of the Panama Canal's development. A number of factors point to the current importance of the canal. One is China's growing interest in the area and the growing unease of the United States. Another factor is the desire to develop new alternatives to compete with the Panama Canal, whether it is the Nicaragua project, the Northwest Passage or land route projects in Latin America. |
