dc.description.abstractTématem diplomové práce je Mecenášská a literární činnost Mary Sidney Herbert a Williama Herberta. Práce se zaměřuje především na literární a mecenášskou činnost Mary Sidney Herbert a Williama Herberta v alžbětinské Anglii. Zabývá se charakteristikou dobové situace, včetně politické a náboženské situace, alžbětinského divadla a výzev, kterým divadelní společnosti čelily. Práce dále analyzuje roli žen v literatuře, přičemž se zaměřuje na Mary Sidney Herbert a její neteř Mary Wroth, které pocházely z aristokratických rodin a měly finanční podporu, jež jim umožnila věnovat se literární kariéře. Práce se dále zaměřuje na literární, překladatelskou (tragédie Marc Antoine by Robert Garnier or Discourse of Life a Death by Philip Mornay), vydavatelskou činnost (žalmy bratra Philipa Sidneyho) a patronátní a literární dílo Mary Sidney Herbert a Williama Herberta (básně: "Had I loved but at that rate," Disdain me still, that I may ever love"). Cílem práce bylo jednak objasnit vliv mecenášství na anglickou literární kulturu v tudorovské Anglii, jednak poukázat na kulturní vliv rodiny Sidney a Herbert v alžbětinské Anglii.cs

The work focuses primarily on the literary and patronage activities of Mary Sidney Herbert and William Herbert in Elizabethan England. It deals with the char-acteristics of the contemporary situation, including the political and religious situation, the Elizabethan theater, and the challenges faced by theater companies. The work then analyzes the role of women in literature, with a focus on Mary Sidney Herbert and her niece Mary Wroth, both of whom came from aristocratic families and had financial sup-port that allowed them to pursue their literary careers. The work also focuses on the lit-erary, translational (the tragedy Marc Antoine by Robert Garnier or Discourse of Life and Death by Philip Mornay), publishing activities (psalms of Philip Sidney's brother), and pat-ronage and literary work of Mary Sidney Herbert and William Herbert (poems: "Had I loved but at that rate," Disdain me still, that I may ever love"). The aim of the work was to both elucidate the influence of patronage on English literary culture in Tudor England and to highlight the cultural influence of the Sidney-Herbert family in Elizabethan England.en
