| cs |

dc.description.abstract-translated | The topic of the thesis is the rise of South Africa (SA) as a regional power in Sub-Saharan Africa. In Sub-Saharan Africa, there is competition for overall regional dominance among states that have ambitions to become regional powers. South Africa has had to deal with colonial rule and a period of apartheid in the past. The beginnings of the democratic system can be dated back to 1994. In the theoretical part, I introduced concepts that are related to South Africa's power position, such as power, region and regional power. Then I focused mainly on the foreign policy that helped South Africa to gain an influential position in the region. In the last part of this thesis, I looked at South Africa's influence in sub-Saharan Africa as well as other competing countries such as Nigeria and Angola that compete with JAR | en |
