| Abstract: | Záměrem disertační práce je představit koncepce vědeckého pokroku a představu vývoje vědy od šestnáctého do osmnáctého století. Nejprve se soustředím na období šestnáctého století a první popisy dějin vědy, v nichž se ještě idea pokroku nevyskytovala a pro něž byla typická právě snaha obnovit ztracenou moudrost prisca sapientia. Poté se zaměřím na období sedmnáctého století, kde stále ještě přetrvávala snaha o obnovení prisca sapientia, ale zároveň už se objevují určité představy o pokroku vědy, a to zejména v pracích Bacona, Descarta nebo Pascala. Poté se zaměřím na pojetí pokroku v osmnáctém století. |
| Abstract in different language: | The main focus of the thesis is to present conceptions of scientific progress from sixteenth to eighteenth century. Renaissance scientists focused on the recovery of the antediluvian science, rather than invention of the new knowledge. The first conceptions of scientific progress are typical of the early modern thought. René Descartes and Francis Bacon believed in progress of knowledge and in acquisition of the essential natural knowledge. Blaise Pascal compared the progressive education of humanity through the succession of ages to the education of an individual man.The idea of progress, or the idea of endless proces of improvement, especially of scientific progress, is typical of Enlightment scientists and historians of science in that period. The idea of progress meant promise of the future scientific discoveries, that is characteristic for the Enlightment history of science. |
