| Abstract: | Tématem této diplomové práce je analýza vzájemných vztahů Britského impéria s oběma válčícími stranami v americké občanské válce 1861-1865. Hlavní pozornost je věnována diplomatickým jednáním, aféře Trent, intervenční krizi na podzim roku 1862 a dalším kritickým momentům. Neméně důležité jsou ekonomické dopady války na rozhodování londýnského kabinetu, nezmíněno nezůstane také veřejné mínění na Britských ostrovech. Cílem práce je určení příčin britského nezapojení se do válečného konfliktu. |
| Abstract in different language: | The topic of this thesis is an analysis of the British Empire's relations with both belligerents in the American Civil War of 1861-1865. The main focus is on diplomatic negotiations, the Trent Affair, the intervention crisis in the fall of 1862, and other critical moments. Equally important are the economic effects of the war on the decision-making of the London cabinet, and public opinion in the British Isles is not left unmentioned. The aim of the thesis is to identify the reasons for Britain's non-engagement in the war. |
