Abstract in different language: | This work dealt with British national identity and especially with development and crisis of British national identity and its current state. The first part of this work dealt with terms like nationalism, nation and national identity. The second part of this work dealt with single regional identities which can be found in the British Isles. These identities are Scottish, Welsh, Irish, English and finally British. In the second part of the work each identity were described from historical and also actual point of view. There were described relations between regional identities and British national identity. The third part of this work dealt with Great Britain and its vague position in the world. The Great Britain doesn't know whether it is closer to the EU or to the United States of America. We learned that British society and sometimes British politicians have closer relationship with the USA especially due to special relations between both countries. On the other hand Great Britain is nowadays part of the EU and that means that British government should be adjusted for EU?s regulation. We can find answers to the research questions in the last part of this work. British national identity is still confused, but in some part it has relatively strong basis. Great Britain?s position is still unclear. Society is more pro-US but the British government must follow EU?s regulation. |
