Abstract in different language: | This Bachelor Thesis focuses on analyzing selected literature of Soviet dissent, its main theme being the gulag phenomenon. Thesis should provide an overview of the labor camps and how they functioned, as well as an insight on how confinement affected the political views of the individual authors. The goal of my research was to determine, in what ways did their opinions change concerning the Soviet regime and if it lead to their self-reflection. For the analysis I chose these books: The Gulag Archipelago and One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich from Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Kolyma Tales from Varlam Shalamov, How Much Is a Person Worth from Eufrosinia Kersnovskaya, Within the Whirlwind from Jevgenija Ginzburg and Odlyan, or the Air of Freedom from Leonid Gabyshev. Selected works are some of the most relevant in the Russian dissent telling the story of life in the concentration camps. Works of these authors have been widely translated in numerous foreign languages and received international recognition for bringing the reality of Russian gulags to a wider audience. |
