| Abstract: | Bakalářská práce se zabývá rozšířením eugenického hnutí ve Spojených státech amerických a Velké Británii, a to zejména v první polovině 20. století. Hlavním cílem této práce je popsat rozdíly mezi britským a a americkým eugenickým hnutím. Zatímco ve Spojených státech bylo hnutí zaměřeno na snížení přistěhovalectví a na přijetí sterilizačních zákonů úzce spojených s rasovými předsudky, eugenické hnutí ve Velké Británii představovalo hnutí střední třídy, které využívalo eugeniku jako rasovou strategii proti nižší třídě. První kapitola bakalářské práce je zaměřena na eugeniku a historii eugenického hnutí obecně. Pak studie pokračuje popisem a analýzou hnutí ve Velké Británii v konkrétním kritickém kontextu. Dalším cílem studie je poskytnout analýzu rozšíření a příjetí eugenického hnutí ve Spojených státech. Snažil jsem se ukázat a vysvětlit hlavní rozdíly v přijetí a politice eugeniky v Severní Americe, Velké Británii a některých dalších zemích severní Evropy (Norsko, Finsko, Švédsko a Dánsko) a problémy adaptace sterilizačních zákonů. |
| Abstract in different language: | The bachelor thesis deals with expansion of eugenics movement in the United States of America and Great Britain, especially in the first half of the 20th century. The main purpose of the work is to describe the differences between the British and American eugenics movement. Whereas in the United States the movement was focused on reducing immigration and on adoption of sterilization laws closely linked to racial prejudices, the eugenics movement in Great Britain presented a middle-class movement which exploited eugenics as a racial strategy turned against lower classes. The first chapter of the thesis is focused on eugenics and history of eugenics movement in general. Then the study proceeds to the description and analysis of the movement in Great Britain in the concrete critical context. The further goal of the study is to provide an analysis of the expansion and reception of the eugenic movements in the United States. I was trying to demonstrate and explain the main differences in reception and policy of the eugenics in the North America, United Kingdom and some other countries in Northern Europe (Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark) and the problems of adaption on sterilization laws. |
